Title

Interview with Casey Phillips, Part Two

Description

Casey Phillips is the founder of the Texas Prisons Air Conditioning Advocacy group. In this follow-up to her 2020 interview, Casey discusses the conditions of her husband’s unit post-lockdown. Casey’s husband has late stage renal failure and continues to face worsening conditions in Texas Prisons. She discusses the procedures and emotions she experienced getting to visit her husband for the first time post-lockdown and what she thinks the future of visitations will look like. She also speaks about the process for parole approval and the contradictory nature of program enrollment becoming required after submitting for parole. Casey expresses disappointment and anger at the way incarcerated folks are disregarded by the state and general public, and hopes her efforts to fight for better conditions and rights are met with successful policy measures.
