Interview with Monique Joseph
Title
Interview with Monique Joseph
            Description
Monique Joseph is the Holistic Services Director at Restoring Justice in Houston, TX. After her husband was wrongfully convicted, Monique began her journey working in reform and advocacy. The mistreatment her husband receives inside and the systemic racism that impacts Black children, specifically the school-to-prison pipeline– have inspired her calling to the restorative justice field. In this interview, Monique discusses the difficulties with suddenly becoming a single mother and navigating life without her husband. She describes how her mental and emotional state are continually impacted by her work and the trauma of her husband’s on-going incarceration. She talks about the importance of her support system– specifically her brother– and how her children have responded to their father’s incarceration. This interview was conducted by interviewer Julia Montiel via Zoom with narrator Monique Joseph.
